The United Nations says that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has gotten much worse since a ceasefire deal fell through. Anadolu News Agency says that since Israel started military operations again on March 18, 2025, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 2,000 have been hurt.
The UN says that since the fighting started again, about 124,000 Palestinians have had to leave their homes. Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN, stressed how bad things are by saying that people in Gaza have to leave their homes many times to find safety.
The humanitarian effort is almost at its limit. The World Food Program (WFP) said that 25 bakeries it helped had to close because they ran out of flour and cooking gas. UN organizations have asked that crossings be reopened right away so that important goods and supplies can get to people who need them. Reuters
There have been a lot of deaths in the war. The Health Ministry in Gaza says that Israeli bombs killed at least 404 Palestinians on March 18. Of these, 183 were children and 94 were women. More than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel’s attack since October 2023.The majority of them were women and children.
The UN says that Israeli forces have escalated their armed actions and have seized or evacuated around 65% of the enclave. Constructing watchtowers and deploying positions in strategic locations by troops is an indicator that they are preparing for a prolonged stay. This has caused a lot of people to be forced to leave their homes. The UN says that 64% of Gaza’s population has now been forced to leave.
The situation is getting worse, and the foreign community is worried about it. The UN Secretary-General has requested an open and independent inquiry into events where civilians were injured, like allegations that Israeli soldiers targeted paramedics. The UN also emphasized the significance of delivering emergency relief immediately, noting that commodities have not entered Gaza for over a month and resulting in critical shortages of food, medicine, and fuel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to intensify the military campaign to exert more pressure on Hamas to release the hostages. The situation remains precarious, with clashes continuing and an increasing humanitarian crisis in Gaza that impacts millions of individuals.
